WHY WE USE CBD
Cannabidiol (CBD)
CBD (CannaBiDiol). CBD is gaining scientific and medical awareness and as a result, is being explored for a variety of reasons. The 4 main reasons we use it is for reducing inflammation and pain, help with stress, sleep and overall wellness, but more studies are now showing many other potential benefits with various health conditions.
Here's more info about the compound itself and why we believe it's the perfect match for us, action sport enthusiasts.
CBD is one of the 113 cannabinoïd molecules produced uniquely by the hemp and cannabis families. As opposed to other cannabinoids like THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), when extracted and consumed, CBD doesn’t have a strong effect on cognitive brain activity. CBD contains no THC (<0.03mg) and is commonly known as being non-psychoactive.
We always loved the science of things. Anatomy, biology and even just being an athlete is a search for discovery in finding oneself. When we say CBD is the future, we truly believe it. Here is why...
A long learnt belief is there are eleven systems of the body (Circulatory, Respiratory, Nervous, Muscular, Immune, etc.). As recently as the 1990's however, scientists discovered a 12th system in the body, the endocannabinoid system!
What Is The Endocannabinoid (ECS) System?
The ECS is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids. Endocannabinoids are endogenous lipid-based retrograde neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors and cannabinoid receptor proteins that are expressed throughout the central nervous system (including the brain) and peripheral nervous system. Amongst all the various benefits that are being correlated with CBD consumption, our exclusive CBDayz formulas are tailor designed for the action sports community.
The Endocannabinoid system (ECS) has a series of receptors throughout the whole body (brain, organs, connective tissue, immune cells and glands). Some suggest that it may assist with a variety of functions including sleep, mood, memory, appetite, reproduction and pain.
In really basic terms, the ECS's role is to maintain balance/homeostasis in the body. From temperature regulation, to hormone levels, to your body noticing a build up of toxins in your bloodstream. Get it? It's disease and illness... Here's the cool part...
Endocannabinoids are what bind to the receptors to maintain balance and are found naturally in our bodies. Exercise helps with stress and makes you feel better. Amazingly, scientists link possible correlations to the endocannabinoids and the ECS. However, a lack of looking after ourselves and not exercising, sleeping and having a poor diet can diminish these receptors
Now enter CBD! The hemp plant (not marijuana) has a high concentration of CBD, a plant-based endocannabinoid. When you take a dose of CBD, it floods the ECS, and studies are finding CBD may put your body in balance.
How Does the Endocannabinoid System Work?
Cannabinoids, their receptors, and endocannabinoid molecules all play a role in the Endocannabinoid properly balancing your bodily functions. Your body produces endocannabinoids and you receive some from your diet. The endocannabinoids match the correct cannabinoid cells with certain receptors to balance bodily functions as they cycle throughout the ECS.
CB1 & CB2 Receptors
After discovering the endocannabinoid system, recent studies have shown that our brains have specific receptors designed to accept cannabinoids, known as CB1 and CB2, which are responsible for the assimilation of cannabinoids molecules in your system. A discovery that started a whole new era in cannabis and hemp research. Here we are enjoying the compound and finding it very effective in our OG Muscle Gel formula to reduce inflammation, and also reduce stress when when using tinctures.
